Do I have to dress up?

To work in front you must be dressed up but outfits are provided for you if you don't have your own.  If you have any outfits that would be appropriate, feel free to wear those.

Can I sign up for any shifts I want?

Yes and no.
Workers under age 16 cannot work past 7pm after Labor Day, so if they sign up for closing shifts they should plan to clock out at 7 pm.

Workers under age 16 cannot work more than 8 hours in a day.

Do I need to have a pass to enter?

You should have a parking pass to display in your vehicle. Parking passes are available from the NKCHS Ren Fest Coordinator if you need one. A current weekend worker list will be given to the "checkers" each weekend. If your name is on that list, you should be able to enter after presenting your photo ID (driver's license or school ID).

When you arrive, tell the checkers that you're working for NKCHS Band in Turkey 100

When will I get a break? Can I go on break any time?

Break times are at the discretion of the NKCHS Ren Fest Coordinator and depend on the booth's needs. The shorter shifts are designed to cover the booth's needs for anticipated lunch/dinner rushes and breaks for the openers/closers. Workers on these shifts are not scheduled for a break, EVEN IF you work back-to-back short shifts, but may get a break at the discretion of the NKCHS Ren Fest Coordinator

Do you ever "send people home" early?

Yes...Rarely. However, when we are out of products to sell and/or festival attendance is lower than expected, we reserve the right to "clock someone out" early based on booth needs, since nobody is making any money, is just fair for everybody..

How is my pay calculated?

During Festival we keep track of the number of hours each volunteer works and which student they are working for. After Festival ends Band Boosters receives a lump sum for the proceeds of our booth sales. Once Band Boosters adds the tips received throughout the festival and takes out its sponsor fee (amount determined each year based on need), the remaining amount is divided by the total number of hours the group worked for the season and the result is the hourly rate. The rate is multiplied by the number of hours each student (and their family and friends) worked and their student account is credited for that amount. Money is typically credited to student accounts in January.

Note:.. Make sure when sign the time sheet write name of the student you working for clearly to assure proper hours being paid.

How do I address concerns I have about volunteering?

If you need to discuss a concern, discrepancy or want to dispute something you see, during the festival is NOT the time! Everyone is busy and has a job to do there. Request to speak with the organizer or a booster officer at another time. Unless the issue is urgent and needs to be dealt with immediately, DO NOT stop working, or make someone else stop working, to talk about it.

When it is time to discuss the issues, it is never okay to be disrespectful or rude. Everyone in the booster organization is a volunteer and chooses to give their time and energy because they love these kids, the band program and only want to make it better. It is unacceptable to behave in a rude or condescending manner and anyone doing so will no longer be allowed to volunteer!
